The Cengage Education Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA) online course is intended for systems administrator and systems engineer candidates who are responsible for managing accounts and resources.
You’ll learn to manage all the important elements of your organisation’s Microsoft system: user, computer and group accounts, access to network resources and printers.
The course covers management of organisational units in an Active Directory network as well as the implementation of Group Policy covering users and individual network nodes. Graduates will emerge with the knowledge and skills employers need to maintain server resources, monitor system performance and safeguard data on computers running Windows.

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment Management and Maintenance Expert
This course is intended for systems administrator and systems engineer candidates who are responsible for managing accounts and resources. These tasks include managing user, computer and group accounts; managing access to network resources; managing printers; managing an organisational unit in a network based on the Active Directory service; and implementing Group Policy to manage users and computers. This course also provides students with the knowledge and skills that are needed to effectively maintain server resources, monitor server performance and safeguard data on computers running one of the operating systems in the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 family.
Prerequisites
Before attending this course, students must have:
- CompTIA A+ certification, or equivalent knowledge and skills
- CompTIA Network+ certification, or equivalent knowledge and skills
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Services Management Expert
This course provides students with the skills required to configure and troubleshoot TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and WINS as well as other components in a Windows 2003 network infrastructure. This course will prepare students for Microsoft Certified Professional Exam 70-291, a core credit for becoming a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer.
Prerequisites
Before attending this course, you should have a broad base of knowledge and competency in core hardware and operating system technologies including installation, configuration, diagnosing, preventive maintenance and basic networking. Additionally, you should be able to describe the features and functions of networking components, and possess the knowledge and skills needed to install, configure and troubleshoot basic networking hardware, protocols and services. Completion of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment Management and Maintenance 2.0, or equivalent knowledge and skills, is highly recommended.
Students will be given the option to choose one elective from the following groups:
Group 1:
Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional and Server Installation and Administration
This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to install or upgrade to Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, configure and maintain the Windows 2000 environment, and connect clients running Windows 2000 to networks and the Internet. In addition, this course provides the skills and knowledge necessary to install and configure Windows 2000 Server to create file, print and Terminal servers. The student will also gain an understanding of the Windows 2000 security and disaster protection capabilities.
