Throughout this site you may see unfamiliar terms used to describe Cengage Education and its courses.

Abstudy: Aboriginal Study Assistance Scheme, a government scheme providing financial assistance to indigenous students in school or further education.

Australian Qualifications Framework: If you are studying a nationally recognised course then your qualification comes under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). AQF provides a comprehensive, nationally consistent yet flexible framework, for all qualifications in post-compulsory education and training. AQF comprises of thirteen national qualifications issued in the Secondary Schools Sector (High School Year 12), Vocational Education and Training (VET) Sector (Cengage Education), and Higher Education Sector (Universities).

Austudy: An income support scheme for full-time students aged 25 years and over.

Certificate (Cert): Qualifications range from Certificate II to Certificate IV, the higher the level of the Certificate courses the more learning outcomes will be achieved.

Competency based: Training that is an assessment approach, with an emphasis on what a person can actually do in the work/learning environment. Each competency outlines performance criteria which is used to judge if an individual is either "Competent" or "Not Competent".

Correspondence learning: Refers to the method of training provided by Cengage Education. All course materials are mailed to your home, there are no classes to attend. This form of education is a self paced, flexible learning method. When you complete a learning module and mail in your assessment, we despatch the next module of study directly to you.

Diploma (Dip): One of the highest level for a nationally recognised course that Cengage Education can award, within the educational sector it operates. The nationally recognised Diplomas that Cengage Education specialises in provide a pattern of learning that guides a student from the initial concepts within an area of learning through to the advanced levels.
